🏁

Race

First to hit the target distance wins the pot. Set 5 miles, 10 miles, a half marathon — whoever logs it first takes everything.

📏

Most Miles

Highest mileage in 7 days takes the prize. Perfect for run clubs and weekly challenges. Every mile counts toward your total.

🔥

Streak

Hit your daily target every single day to stay in. Miss one day and you're out. Last runner standing wins.

How real-money running competitions work

RunMatch is the simplest way to put money on the line with your run club, group chat, or training partners. Here's what happens from start to finish:

1. Create the competition

Pick the format (Race, Most Miles, or Streak), set the distance or duration, and choose a buy-in. Buy-ins can be $0 (free play) or any amount you want — we've seen everything from $5 friendly bets to $500 pots.

2. Invite your friends

Share the 6-character invite code with anyone. They join the lobby, lock in their buy-in, and the competition kicks off when you're ready.

3. Run on Strava

Every run is automatically tracked through Strava. Start a run, hit your distance, end the run — RunMatch picks it up and updates the leaderboard in real time. No manual logging, no fake miles.

4. Winner takes the pot

When the competition ends, the winner is automatically paid out to their RunMatch wallet. Withdraw to your bank or debit card whenever you want.

Run 1 mile. We'll pay you $10.

Every new runner gets a free $10 starter race. No buy-in, no catch.

Who uses RunMatch?

Why real money makes you actually run

Fitness apps are full of streaks, badges, and points that don't matter. RunMatch is different — when there's $50 on the line, you don't skip the morning run. The whole point of stakes is that they hurt to lose. That's what gets you out the door.

It's the same principle behind commitment contracts and Daily Fantasy Sports: skill-based competition with financial accountability. The difference is RunMatch is built for runners, not bettors.

Frequently asked questions

What is a running competition app?

A running competition app lets you challenge friends or strangers to a structured running contest with rules, timing, and verified results. RunMatch adds real money stakes and automatic GPS tracking through Strava — winner takes the pot.

How do running competitions work on RunMatch?

Pick a format (Race, Most Miles, or Streak), set a buy-in or compete for free, and invite friends with a code. Everyone runs on Strava, the leaderboard updates live, and the winner is paid out automatically.

How much does it cost to join?

Buy-ins range from free to $50+ per competition. Pots scale with the group — 4 friends at $25 each creates a $100 pot. New users get a free $10 starter race for running just 1 mile.

Are the competitions verified?

Yes. Every run is GPS-tracked through Strava with pace and route validation. Manual entries are blocked, and we reject runs faster than 4 minutes per mile to stop cheating.

Can I create my own running competition?

Yes. Anyone can spin up a competition in 30 seconds. Pick a name, format, distance/duration, optional buy-in, and share the code. Works for groups of 2 to 200+.
