RunMatch is built by tech natives who love running. It started as an idea for group improvement and real accountability โ once we saw the personal growth and fun it brought us, we decided to go formal with it.
We're runners. Some weeks we crush our training. Other weeks we ghost the morning run and tell ourselves Monday is the new restart day. We tried every habit app, every accountability hack, every motivational quote. None of it worked when motivation crashed.
What did work: putting real money on the line. Once a small bet was riding on whether we showed up, the morning run stopped being optional. We started competing in friend groups โ $20 buy-ins, weekly Most Miles, winner takes the pot. The energy completely changed. Group chats got competitive. People who hadn't run in months started logging miles. Money showed up, friendships got tighter, and we ran more than we ever had.
That's RunMatch. Real-money running competitions for friends and run clubs, GPS-verified through Strava, automatic payouts. The first running app where the leaderboard actually pays you.
Motivation is temporary. Systems and stakes are permanent. We build tools around what actually works, not what sounds inspirational.
Running with friends already makes you faster. Adding stakes is what gets the flakes to actually show up. Better together, with consequences for ghosting.
Optional, voluntary, and entirely your choice. But when your own money is behind your goals, you stop treating them like suggestions.
We're software engineers and runners based in the U.S. RunMatch started as a side project โ an idea for our own group of running friends. We just wanted a way to make our weekly miles competitive, with a small pot at stake. Something to keep the group chat from going cold by Wednesday.
It worked. Better than we expected. Friends who hadn't run in years were back at it. Group runs became must-attends. The money was almost beside the point โ what mattered was the structure: stakes, leaderboards, automatic payouts, no awkward Venmo collection. The system did the work.
After watching our crew get faster and more consistent than we'd ever been on our own, we decided to go formal with it. Build it as a real app. Open it up to other runners and run clubs. RunMatch is what we wished existed when we started โ and now it does, for everyone.
Every feature, blog post, and guide on this site comes from real experience using the platform. We test every feature by using it ourselves. We compete against each other. We've lost money to each other when we missed runs. That's how we know it works.
Free to download. Free to use. Stakes are always optional โ but they work.
